Welcome to

Placid Athletic Association
The Placid Athletic Association operates a Baseball Program for all ages, from Pee-Wee ball to Semi-Pro.  We are a self supported organization, earning our way with concession sales, our unique Wood Bat Babe Ruth Tournament, a steak fry each spring, as well as the generosity of a few friends of the program.  We are located in rural Epworth, 3 miles south of town, 3 miles west of Timberline Golf Course on East Pleasant Grove Rd, near the St. John's Placid Church.  We'd like to invite you to come on out and watch a ballgame under the big oak trees some time.

Placid Ballpark in Ruins(update below)
The unprecedented rainfall we had Wednesday night July 26th into Thursday Morning caused massive flooding damage to the Placid Ballpark. The Dance Hall and Pavilion (the shed) is no more. There are tons of rock on the outfield, the outfield fence is gone, and we have lost several items that were in the shed to the water and mud. Jay Swenson and Matt Turnis found a lot of stuff down in the pasture. Scott Schwendinger, Brett Rapp, and Robbie Haas worked for hours that Thursday getting things out of the shed and getting stuff back from the pasture. Shawn Swenson found the remote  to the scoreboard. We will not know for some time if it still works, the same for the pitching machine and other things. We have salvaged as much as we can from the shed. Matt Turnis, Shawn and Jay Swenson, Cody Tentis, and a couple other players have been working hard, getting dirty to try and save what's possible. Thanks to JJ Connoly for all his help. We have received several offers from other teams to be able to use their fields. We will probably have to take someone up on their offer as we will not be playing anymore baseball at Placid in 2011. I'm just hoping we can have it ready for 2012. Thanks to all for your offers of support and kindnesses. It is greatly appreciated by everyone that has been working at the cleanup.

We would like to thank Chad Demmer and Eastern Iowa Excavating and Concrete for  removing the rock from our centerfield area. They took 25 dump truck loads of rock off of the field. They also removed the remains of the shed for us. I can't express how huge this was and how great they were in doing this for our program.

Now we look to start rebuilding! First step is redoing the fence. Then the outfield needs to get reworked. Then we can start to worry about the shed. We got some free posts from 4J Fencing in New Vienna. We appreciate them.

We have been awarded a grant from the DRA/Mystique casino again this year. The 2011 award is $2520, which will be spent rehabbing(rebuilding) our Dance Hall and Pavilion, otherwise known as the shed.
Update: We were unable to use the 2011 Grant because it was designed to rehab the old shed, which was destroyed. Therefore, we have applied for a larger grant for 2012 than normal, in the hope we can build a new, better shed than we've ever had before. Hope for success...

We can't express how appreciative we are for the support and the confidence that we will make good use of it. Thanks again DRA/Mystique!!
